About Us
The Friends of Klein Fen are a not for profit corporation registered in the
state of Illinois.  We are citizens and registered voters of DuPage County,
Illinois.  We are asking the City of West Chicago to deny the prompt and
unexpected annexation request of 200 acres west of the Klein Fen.  We
support the efforts of the DuPage County Forest Preserve to acquire this
land immediately west of the West Branch Forest Preserve.  These two
landscapes are integrally connected.  The land to the west is a vital part
in preserving the Klein Fen.  Development on this land would prevent
valuable surface water from infiltrating the soils and flowing toward the
fen.  Ultimately, this water runs into the West Branch DuPage River.

Diverse plant and animal communities live in these properties.  553 plant
species and 231 wildlife species live within the West Branch Forest
Preserve.  Of these, 10 species are listed as threatened or endangered
in Illinois and 22 species are listed as Species In Greatest Need of
Conservation.
